| Hale Field Memorial Lecture Series at the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum |
May 23, 2004
7:00 pm
http://www.nhnm.org SPECIAL NATIONAL BOOK TOUR
Author / Speaker:
Mr. William Langewiesche
Title of his New Book :
"The Outlaw Sea"
A World of Freedom, Chaos, and Crime
Admission: $15 - Reservations are required. Complementary wine and cheese will be served.
Mr. Langewiesche spent months traveling on tankers throughout the world to bring to life several stories of contemporary shipwreck and piracy. He introduces us to the sailors who labor under dangerous condition with little regard for safety. From Europe to Southeast Asia, Mr. Langewiesche tracks down survivors of accidental and criminal mishap and reveals the political and bureaucratic red tape that keeps these stories from the public eye. In light of 9/11, the open ports, high seas and cargo shipping comprise an arena of complex vulnerability to terrorism.
This event is produced in conjunction with Jacquelyn Beauregard Dillman, Lecture Events Consultant.
