| Bill Cosby - part of the Spotlight Series at Segerstrom Hall |
January 11, 2003
www.ocpac.org The Orange County Performing Arts Center presents an evening with Bill Cosby. Bill Cosby is, without a doubt, one of the funniest men in America. He started as a standup comedian, using a relaxed manner and basing his conversational style humor on warm, anecdotal childhood and family recollections. For nearly 40 years, Cosby has proven that humor can be fun without being resque', and his broad appeal and popularity have been convfirmed with several People's Choice Awards. In 1966 Cosby became the first African-American ever to star in a dramatice television program, co-starring with Robert Club in "I Spy". For his work in the series, Cosby received his first Emmy Award. He holds the unprecedented record of the being the first person to receive six consecutive Grammy Awards, beginning with 1964's "I Started Out as a Child." Cosby has also starred in nermous motion pictures and as a guest star on many television programs. Some of the films are based on "I Spy," others on teh unique Cosby humor, and in others he is the voiceover for animated characters. After keeping a low profile for several years, Cosby resurfaced in 1984 with "The Cosby Show," an NBC series inspired by his own family experiences. It was an unparalleled success and quickly shot to the number one slot in the Nielsen ratings, a position it retained for the majority of its eight-season run.
