Balboa Fun Zone

A Newport Beach institution since 1936, the Balboa Fun Zone is ideal for children of all ages. Ride the ferris wheel, merry-go-round and bumper cars. Play video games, pose for a portrait or browse through the delightful shops for souvenirs along the boardwalk. Snack on the famous Balboa Bar, a chocolate-covered ice cream bar sprinkled with delightful toppings. Stop for a hamburger or enjoy fine waterfront dining at the ferry landing. Catalina Island

Only 26 miles across the beautiful Pacific lies California’s favorite island getaway, Santa Catalina. With crystal-clear waters, sandy beaches and panoramic views, Catalina offers something for everyone, including horseback riding, bicycling, golf and excellent scuba diving. The Disneyland Resort, in Southern California

Disneyland in Anaheim is the original Disney theme park, with classic attractions and spectacular entertainment. The resort also features the Disneyland Hotel and the Disneyland Pacific Hotel. Both properties feature early morning admission into the famous theme park. Disneyland is open 365 days a year. The Environmental Nature Center

For nature lovers, the Environmental Nature Center offers guided walking tours in its two-and-a-half acre wildlife habitat, featuring 13 California plant communities. Specifically geared for children ages five and older. Trail guides and naturalists available. Open every day from 8am to 5pm. 1601 16th Street between Irvine Avenue and Dover Drive, Newport Beach. Irvine Spectrum Center

California’s premiere entertainment center offers the ultimate experience for everyone! Whether it is a family outing or a romantic interlude, this outdoor entertainment plaza offers a 21screen cinema/IMAX, world-class restaurants, Sega City and specialty stores. Laguna Beach

This internationally respected artist’s haven on the Pacific Coast is home to a myriad of galleries, museums, open-air exhibits, antique shops and specialty boutiques. A historical Spanish mission dating from 1776. Adobe structures, graceful arches, Moorish fountains, and spacious lawns, gardens, and courtyards. Guided day and evening tours by appointment. The Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace

Features nine-acres of galleries, gardens, statues, theaters and the restored birthplace of America’s 37th President. From the beautiful wood-paneled 300-seat theater, to the lovely outdoor amphitheater, the Nixon Library is truly an experience not to be forgotten. By day it is the third best attended visitor attraction in the county, by night the Nixon Library plays host to the most exclusive parties and corporate events. Sherman Library and Gardens

Occupying more than two acres in Corona del Mar, the Library has one of the county’s most impressive cultural and educational research centers devoted to the study of the Pacific Southwest. The beautiful gardens, accented by fountains and sculptures, showcase more than 2,000 plant species ranging from rare desert cacti to exotic tropical flowers. The ultra-modern conservatory houses tropical specimens and a koi pond. The Discovery Garden, specially designed for those with impaired vision, appeals to the sense of touch and is wheelchair accessible. Docent tours available. Garden is open daily. Upper Newport Bay

The Upper Newport Bay provides six diverse habitats for more than 200 bird species that either live there or visit during their Pacific flyaway migration. Canoe and kayak tours and family campfire programs are offered during weekends throughout the year. Free two-hour walking nature tours are available every first and third Saturday and depart from Shellmaker Island at 9am.
